Why You Should Invest in Eco-conscious Clothing

Today we’re talking about all things sustainability, and why investing in eco-conscious clothing should be at the top of your priority list. Here at Therm, we are committed to making a difference, our mission is to help the environment while encouraging others to get outside and enjoy nature. We believe in leading by example, which starts with our products. We strive to create the best most durable outdoor clothing that lasts for years to come. Clothing that can be passed down to generations, so that our clothing doesn’t end up in the landfill. We want our customers to be able to enjoy our products for as long as possible, all while reducing our carbon footprint. So, let’s get into it! Here are some reasons why you should invest in eco-conscious clothing.

To help the environment

The impact the fashion industry has on the planet is enormous. In fact, we throw away up to 11.3 million tons of textile waste annually here in the US. That accounts for around 2150 pieces of clothing, every second. (source) The earth is our home, and we need to do our best to protect it. Our global temperatures have increased by 1.1 degrees in the last year alone. Climate change is real, as we’ve seen with various scary climate-related crises across the world recently. To make a difference, the change must start with businesses like us, and consumers like you. By making a conscious effort to reduce the amount of clothing we buy and being more mindful of the items we purchase; we can work together to help our protect our mother earth.

To support retailers that are working for change.

We believe it’s important to support businesses that are trying their best to make a difference, those working tirelessly towards making our planet a better place to live. Businesses are going the extra mile and doing some amazing things, all with the collective vision to make sure that our planet is safe for generations to come. Those who are changing their practices to be more sustainable are the ones we should be supporting.

To lower your Carbon Footprint

We should be making every effort to lower our carbon footprint. Using a reusable bag instead of a plastic one, taking public transport or cycling instead of driving and even simply turning off the lights when we leave a room. The same goes for the purchasing decisions we made. Purchase something long-lasting that’s been made with the environment in mind. Every little bit helps.

What we are doing to help:

We set a goal to use fabric made from recycled plastic across our entire product line by 2022. We reached that goal in February 2020. We are very proud to say that all Therm garments are made using 100% Recycled rPET Fabric. That’s right, everything from our All-Weather Hoodies and Hydracloud Puffer Jackets to our Snow-Rider Ski Gear. We have used plastic products (such as water bottles) that were then crushed and melted and spun into new fibres to make fabric.

But the hard work does not stop there. In March 2019, we switched all of our garment packaging to Biodegradable and Compostable bioplastic bags, made from organic matter such as corn starch. Throw the packaging in with your compost and food scraps at home, and it will break down within 90 days. How cool is that!?

As a company, we are committed to reducing our negative impact on the planet, our children, and future generations by implementing these key practices. It's time for us to all do better, and as a company, we're holding ourselves accountable.

Nature is our playground, so let's protect it, together.
